Your ownership questions answered
How do I book a time to use the aircraft?

We have an online booking system, or you can phone the club. It is first come, first served, but with just ten flying members you shouldn't have a problem getting a slot.

Can I book my C42 Ikarus for a whole day?

Yes. To stop one owner booking up every weekend, each member will be allowed to make up to three "whole day" bookings in advance. Once one of those dates has passed, then you can book a fourth date, and so on. So if you want to take someone for a special flight, you can book that date up to a year in advance.

What is the minimum charge for a whole day?

The minimum is two flying hours midweek in Winter, three hours midweek in Summer. At weekends (Saturday, Sunday and bank holiday Mondays) it is three hours in Winter and four hours in Summer.

In Summer (between when the clocks go forward in Spring and they go back in October), if the aircraft is returned to Strathaven before 5pm then the minimum time will be reduced by an hour.

What happens if I get stranded by the weather?

We aim to encourage responsible flying. If the forecast was good but the weather changes, you won't be charged for the time the aircraft is stranded away from Strathaven.

Who services the aircraft?

Routine servicing will be carried out at the airfield and signed off in the logbooks by "qualified people" as defined by the British Microlight Aircraft Association's guidebooks. In practise, most of the work will be done by our flexwing microlight instructor Graham McNally, who worked on aircraft in the RAF and for BA on civvy street. The costs of this are all covered by the monthly fees. Co-owners will be encouraged to take an interest in their aircraft if they want.
